“Lost” — The Brig

The BrigLocke’s dad… kind of a jerk, right?

A murderously delicious episode of Lost last night, despite most of the big shocking reveals having been highly speculated about for months. Despite the above picture being a rather chunky spoiler, I’ll have the rest of the deets after the jump…

The two big revelations were the well established assumptions that Locke’s dad was in fact the real Sawyer, and that they are all in fact dead and that this is hell (the second probably isn’t true despite evidence pointing in that direction, but for the time being it’s kind of interesting to think about).

Seeing as how I’m suppose to be somewhere in ten minutes, we’re going to have to do this bullet-point style. Sorry for cop-out, but golf balls don’t hit themselves, am I right?

  • Loved seeing Sawyer get upset, which I don’t think has ever really happened — he’s been incredibly annoyed, and maybe a little angry, but truly upset?
  • Kind of funny how at least three different times in the episode characters that we do and don’t know had said something along the lines of “you’re not ready to hear the answers yet” which basically came off like Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff saying to the viewers “Easy, kids. We have four hours to go.”
  • Black rock!
  • The whole plot with the girl who landed on the island is kind of hurting my brain. A lot. I mean, is she “dead” too. Technically her copter went down.
  • How disappointing will it be if this really is suppose to be hell? On the other hand, hell seems unexpectedly lush!
  • And yet on ANOTHER hand, haven’t we been off the island in real time? Like last year during the finale? Maybe the whole world is in hell, which would actually be kind of cool and a curious political statement.
  • Juliette only has two looks: a loving gaze, and unctuous.
  • I liked when Hurley said they found the sat-phone in the luggage. That made me laugh.
  • Again, Locke’s dad: jerk.

And that’s it. What did you think? Was this episode awesome or awesomely frustrating. I’m kind of on the fence, but it’s a joy to watch Terry O’Quinn act. Only three weeks to go!

I think all this hell talk is really a way of the producers saying “All right, guys. They’re NOT in hell. Now calm down.” If they were in hell, then that’s a huge chunk of the “mystery” that’s already been solved. I’m more inclined to think a conspiracy (involving Penny’s dad possibly, among others) caused the outside world to THINK that the plane had been found at the bottom of the ocean with no survivors.

“Plane do-own. There’s no survivooors. There’s no surviiiivors.”
