“Lost” — One of Us

One of UsDude, what’s her deal?

I honestly can’t tell you if last night’s Lost was a great episode or a kick in the balls. Until the final scene I was really enjoying myself, though now I don’t know what to think. What I do know is we seemed to have learned more about the island and The Others over that last 45-minutes of storytelling than we’ve learned in the past three years worth of episodes (have I all ready said that this year? I swear my long-term memory has turned into one never ending blog post). I’m going to try to break it down after the jump…

Here’s what I’m going to assume is THE TRUTH:

The Others (i.e. Ben and most of his gang, but not Juliette), have been living on the island for ages. If we’re to believe Ben (and really, why should we) he’s been on the island for his whole life. Well, they can’t have babies. (Kind of like this problem)

Juliette, can make people pregnant. Because of this, The Others brought her to the island in order to solve their problem. She can make them pregnant, but for some reason the mothers always die during pregnancy.

Then comes Claire. She lands on the island, and she is pregnant. Ethan, disguised as a castaway, runs tests on her while she sleeps. When Ethan’s cover is blown, he kidnaps her and takes her back to the lab where Juliette injects here with… something.

Here’s where things get cloudy for me. Either Claire is magical, had the baby on her own, and only became sick because Ben made Juliette inject her with a time-lapsed nose-bleed super-sickness that was scheduled to go off just as Juliette infiltrated the group, allowing her to save the day. OR! Claire was only able to give birth to the baby without dying because of what Juliette had done while she was kidnapped, and the time-lapsed nose-bleed super-sickness was indeed caused by her not getting the juice… cue Juliette and her magic.

Either way, Juliette is still working with Ben, and Jack is still a tool. At least he admitted that he simply wasn’t interested in getting answers, unlike my man Sayid who is sick and tired of these motherf&@king Others on this motherf&@king island!

Still, the twist ending actually came off as annoying more than it came off as cool. I probably wouldn’t have minded so much had we not taken so many steps forward.
