“Lost” finally makes someone’s brain melt.

Full Lost details coming up right after the break…
Let’s start at the end, shall we? Some people may find the end of last night’s episode infuriating beyond belief. “What?” they say. “Why the hell is Jack so friendly with Mr. Friendly?” “Perhaps it is his friendliness,” I reply. Just a theory. It could also be purgatory, I suppose.
Here’s why this moment is without a doubt my favorite moment of the entire season: it completely flips everything we were suppose to have all ready known on its head (which is simultaneously kind of cruel and kind of awesome), and it did so in such a curious way you just have to sit back, kick up your feet, stretch, smile and think to yourself, “Man, the balls on these guys!”
Given that the visual of a total suburban paradise completely secluded on a lush and dangerous island (how big is this island anyway? I’m beginning to think they may be in Madagascar) is intrinsically cool, I’m almost willing to forgive the fact that Jack’s happy presence is almost unbearable in its whaaaa? factor when we think about everything else that is driving us mad[ly in love].
Really though, that’s what I want from this show. I want things that are cool looking in terms of both their concept and their actual production design. Jack playing football did just that. And hell, I was content enough with that giant upside-down phallic sonar brain-melting fence which was also cool looking (not just because they had those curious balls at the top, but because they — well — melted that guys brain).
The rest of the episode seemed curiously inconsequential despite the fact it went ahead and revealed that Claire and Jack are step-siblings and that Charlie is still knock, knock, knocking on deaths door. I wrote in my notebook that Charlie is a dick and that I can’t wait for Death to tag him. I suppose that kind of sums up my feelings on that matter.
Also a thought on the production side of things: I suspect that the Lost flashbacks probably keep Hawaii’s wig industry especially lucrative.
What did everyone else think?
