“Dirty Sexy Money” — The Lions

The Lions

Looks like Krause is sporting the ol’ post-pilot haircut, where in the time between filming the first episode and the second months have gone by causing an actor’s look to change ever-so-slightly. Is this a problem for the show going forward? Not really, unless sideburn-continuity is something you lost sleep over. No, the problems  with Dirty Sexy Money are a bit more dire. More after the jump…

Well, that was the biggest bait and switch of the season. Funny turned into faintly humorous and mildly soapy become completely drenched in bubbly, eye-burning, exfoliating, operatic madness. Worst, this is not the series were we sold a week ago. All of the ironic detachment has been replaced by orchestral-swelled sap. Where’s the edge? How did this family of self-centered, rich jerks turn into a big weepy balls of tenderness and love?

What a disappointment.

It’s one thing for a series to tank after its pilot episode or to continue treading over the same ground, but it is something completely different to present one show and then deliver something completely different. Frankly, it kind of pisses me off — especially on a Wednesday when I’m already clocking close to seven hours of content. Because of this, Dirty Sexy Money is about fifteen minutes from being cut from my line-up. The preview for next week’s episode looked like it could have some funny moments, but who the hell knows. If things don’t return to pilot-caliber snap-crackle-and-pop by the first commercial break next Wednesday, I’m jumping ship and setting fire to everything I leave behind. Sorry Peter Krause, I love you on television, but not enough to stick with this show in its current form of watercolor nonsense.

[...] Add this to the Dirty Sexy Money debacle a few hours earlier and Wednesday night television was turning into a total bust. [...]

[...] Last week I gave myself a 15-minute ultimatum, on Dirty Sexy Money. Either the show would prove to me that it was more like it’s pilot and not like the soapy mess that was the second episode or I was going to walk away and never look back (or at least in theory). Well, I watched the first fifteen minutes and while it wasn’t episode-two bad, it wasn’t nearly as sharp as I had hoped it would be. In short, this isn’t the series for me. [...]
